The Digital World...
"Life is Real"
It seems like every time I have an assignment for writing, I try to relate it to my life. The "life is real" essay came to be a very personal and sensitive piece of writing. Maybe more sensitive than I wanted it to be. The topic was related to my childhood process of growing up, involving my father who taught me how to read, write, and speak. I really enjoyed writing this essay because flashes of childhood memories came back, memories that I forgot. Later, after I finished this paper, I went to my older brother and we had a good laugh together, remembering all the things we did as wreckless children. I love when we are able to relate our life to scholarly articles and papers and not only write based on boring articles. The "Life is real" and the process of putting it up on a website made me realize that I would probably be able to create and maintain a personal blog. Despite having an assignment to write and learn from, I managed to learn more after the piece was up on the website. Not only did I learn how to write a personal essay, but also how to create a website and keep a good flow between a digital text and a paper essay.
"The Designing Process"
For the past two months, I have felt what is it like to be a web designer. It felt awesome. Looking back at this website, and at all the work I did together with my classmates and students, I can say: I am proud of myself! At first, I was a little anxious about the colors, templates, pictures, but at the end, I felt like i was born knowing how to work with weebly. My favorite work done on this website would have to be the pages. First off, I like how the research study was broken apart in 6 parts. It made it neat, organized and clear. Creating the subpages was fun also because each sub page had its own design. For example if the page was named : "Like birds like people" then the banner could be a picture of birds and the background should match to the picture. It was very fun connecting the dots to make one theme that looks organized.
"The Research Study"
This research study opened doors to many opportunities. I remember in the beginning of semester we talked about other poets that when they write, they actually can touch people's hearts and speak to them through their writing. I thought to myself: I can never do that; I write, yes, but it would never have an impact on anyone. Well, I was wrong. Turns out I can really write, and this made me think to actually switch my major from Criminal Justice to writing. Going out and finding people that match as interviewers was a challenge, but an interesting one. I actually had to sit down with the people and they would share personal stories from their life. I loved the fact that this topic was very personal and sensitive to me and my interviewers. At the end of this research study, tired with a coffee in my hand, when I put the last dot on the paper, I said: Wow, I actually enjoy writing! It made me realize how easy it is to put your feelings and emotions down on paper. And doing it digitally only makes it more exciting.
"21st Century"
Usually, a college student, will not be "attracted" to a video with "writings" but rather to a video with more visuals (Picture, movements). However, the video below caught my attention and had me reading the lines from the beginning till the end. Yes, I agree, now everything is starting to become digital. I remember a few months back I was sitting in a cafe in Canada, Montreal when the server approached me with the bill, and when I took out my credit card to pay, he took out what it looked like a big cell phone ( still don't know what those are called ) and swiped my card through. I thought to myself, wow, that is awesome. He doesn't have to run back and forth. And that is when I started realizing that soon, everyone will be dependent on machines. I personally grew up in a time where we wrote everything on paper and my book bag was bigger than me because it was filled with books and papers. But since I came to America, everything changed. I just counted and in my house there are 11 pieces of machinery ( includes only: cell phones, computers and TV). Whether we like it or not, technology will take over. My main concern with this issue is staying healthy. Sitting by the computers all day isn't necessarily healthy, and our bodies need exercise, sun (Vitamin D) and fresh air. But overall, I can say I am excited to take cyber courses, create websites, and wait and see what other crazy technologies are coming out.
